Pasha Named Best Presenter
Zeeshan Pasha, MD, visiting professor of pathology and laboratory medicine, was named the best poster presenter at the American Heart Association’s (AHA) recently concluded 2006 Scientific Sessions. Pasha’s poster, “Chemokine Preconditioning of Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells Prevents Apoptosis and Enhances Their Proliferation and Differentiation,” was noted for its originality and innovation in the stem cell therapy for cardiovascular diseases category. Only 25 percent of abstracts submitted to the AHA competition are accepted.
Walk/Run to Support IvaDean Scholarship Fund
The College of Medicine is soliciting runners and walkers to participate in the 2007 Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon to benefit the IvaDean Medical Student Scholarship Fund. Participants are eligible to compete in two- or four-person relay running teams or individually as a runner or walker. This year’s race will be held Sunday, May 6. New NetWellness Expert
Zahida Yasin, MD, assistant professor of medicine in the hematology-oncology division, has become a NetWellness.org expert in sickle cell anemia. Yasin joins 160 other active UC contributors on the NetWellness expert panel. NetWellness is a commercial-free consumer health Web site that UC produces in collaboration with Case Western Reserve and Ohio State universities.
Call for Nominations
The College of Medicine is accepting nominations for the Daniel Drake Medal, the highest honor bestowed on distinguished living faculty and alumni. To be eligible, a nominee must be either a College of Medicine graduate (MD or PhD) or a faculty member with at least five years of service, or have completed a residency sponsored by UC, University Hospital or Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Two winners will be announced in February. Nomination forms are available in the Dean’s Office and due no later than Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007. For more information, call (513) 558-7334.

The Translational Research Trials Office at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center will hold its 2007 Annual Educational Symposium from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 26, in the hospital’s Sabin Auditorium.
